Cloud Foundry Advisory Board Meeting - 2014 June

Hi sherly,

Check out the latest blog by ActiveState:

The Cloud Foundry Community Advisory Board started the session focussing on the Cloud Foundry Summit held in San Francisco earlier this month. Overall, the feedback about the conference was very positive. Cornelia Davis summed it up best, "The conference was really great...the energy was tremendous. The tidal wave that you could feel from the momentum around Cloud Foundry and the Cloud foundry community was palpable there." A big thank you to everyone who organized the event!

Other items discussed in the meeting included voting on various projects to be moved to/from the incubator, an update on the activities of the different open source project teams, Diego and the next Cloud Foundry release.

Cloud Foundry Summit 2014

The CAB meeting opened a discussion around the summit and in obtaining feedback about what could be improved for next next time. Overall, everyone felt that it was a great conference with more than 900 people in attendance over the three days. This was a bigger number than last year's and is a testament to the growing interest in the Cloud Foundry ecosystem.

Two Factors to Docker's Success

Hi sherly,

Check out the latest blog by ActiveState's Cloud Solution Architect, Ho Ming Li:

I recently attended DockerCon 2014, the first Docker conference hosted by Docker Inc. The atmosphere was vibrant with lots of contributors and partners in the community actively participating. This conference had it all -- filled with exciting demonstrations, significant announcements, educational sessions, and lots of meaningful discussions around containerization technologies. Thanks for having us. It was my pleasure to be a part of the first Docker conference and I look forward to the next DockerCon.

With that quick impression of the conference, let's turn our attention to what I learned from this inspiring conference, and ultimately, my thoughts on Docker.

libswarm: Docker Orchestration Announced

Hi sherly,

Check out the latest blog by ActiveState's Technology Evangelist, Phil Whelan:

A year ago Docker was announced. Thanks to our 3 plus years experience working with Linux containers, ActiveState could clearly see its potential and understand Solomon Hykes' vision for the future of containerization. We wasted no time making Docker part of Stackato.

Back in May 2013 I had interviewed Solomon Hykes to get the low-down on what Docker was. Now, exactly one year later, Solomon agreed to sit down with me to explain what he describes as “the second lego brick” - libswarm...

Cloud Security with Stackato
Organizations moving to the cloud need to understand the security at each layer of the cloud stack. The security associated with your private Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) is just as important as the security associated with your infrastructure. Stackato has been architected with security as the primary focus to protect your applications from being breached and bringing down your cloud completely.

How Stackato works with your IaaS
By moving to the cloud, your IT and development teams can streamline the processes involved in developing, deploying, and managing applications. The result is improved productivity so you can get your applications to market faster.

Continous Delivery:The Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Component
Deploying smaller changes to your application on a continual basis allows organizations to be more agile. While Stackato is not a continuous integration (CI) tool, it is one of the components that make continuous delivery easier to implement in your organization.

Webinar: Continuous Delivery with Jenkins and Stackato
Webinar: Continuous Delivery with Jenkins and Stackato

Date: Wednesday, November 27, 2013
Time: 10 am PDT / 1 pm EDT (45 min)

Presenters:
John Wetherill, Developer Evangelist, ActiveState
Ho Ming Li, Cloud Engineer, ActiveState

Continuous delivery give organizations a competitive edge since it allows for more agile application deployment to meet the needs of their end users. However, less than one-third of respondents reported that their development team uses continuous integration processes on a daily basis. While it can be a struggle to achieve continuous delivery due to corporate culture or general workflow issues between Dev and IT Operations, there are some specific tools available to help make it a reality.

Join Ho Ming Li, Cloud Engineer and John Wetherill, Developer Evangelist for a live 45 minute presentation on continuous delivery using Jenkins, an open-source continuous integration server, and Stackato, a private PaaS by ActiveState.

In this webinar we will discuss and demonstrate:

  • What is continuous integration, delivery and deployment and why is it important?
  • What are some continuous integration tools available?
  • How to use Jenkins for scheduled deployments and how it can work with Stackato.

Seats are limited. Register today!
